Many people know Katy Perry as a successful singer and songwriter. What many don’t know is that she has an incredibly supportive mother who has been by her side since the beginning of her career. Mary Hudson, or “Mama Perry” as she’s known to fans, was born in 1930 and met Keith Hudson at the age of 21 while working on his father’s farm.

Mary Hudson is the mother of Katy Perry and has been a very important person in her daughter’s life. She was born and raised in Nutbush, Tennessee. When she was little her dad would play guitar for her to entertain himself and his family. He nurtured both of their love for music by teaching them how to play the guitar as well as piano lessons. Growing up Mary had an appreciation for country music but it wasn’t until after she graduated from high school that she really got into rock n’ roll music like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry because they were so much more passionate than other artists out there at the time.

Katy Perry’s mom is Mary Hudson. She was born in 1944, and she still lives in Katy’s childhood home. The house has been renovated to include a recording studio for her daughter, who has become one of the most successful pop stars in the world. Mary says that when her daughter comes back from touring, “She’ll come back with all these stories about what it’s like to be on stage and perform.”
